What to muse about today?

January 10, 2014 ~ First!

So, I actually did finish one of the onesie/t-shirt conversions. This post had been sitting in my draft folder since Thanksgiving.  Crazy.  I’m so behind on writing things up.

Anyway.  On y va!

This is the one that jammed the machine a few times, at least once with bobbin vomit. It’s not the prettiest thing, but it is done. I decided not to convert the others, Ashlin is growing so fast, she really won’t wear them too long. Though there is one Halloween one that I may do anyway. It’s too cute not to.

PS.  We’ve been watching the Returned (les Revenants) on Sundance.  It’s fantastic! And in French too!

January 12, 2013 (Really!)

I’ve just been nominated for The Very Inspiring Blogger award by Oh Sew Tempting!  So nice that she thinks I’m inspiring :)

Very Inspiring Blog Award

Here are the rules:

1. Thank the person who nominated you.
2. Add The Very Inspiring Blogger Award to your post.
3. Share 7 things about yourself.
4. Pass the award on to 10 nominees.
5. Include this set of rules.
6. Inform your nominees by posting a comment on their blog.

So, here we go!  Avis, thank you so much.  With all your crafty skill, that you find me inspiring, leaves me at a loss.  Thank you!

Seven things about myself?  Hum…  let’s see.

  1. I lied to my kids about when Three Kings day was.  We told them it was today :o
  2. I was in a jumpy castle and went down a giant slide today!  So.  Much.  Fun!
  3. I really love watching Glee, Walking Dead, American Horror Story and Once Upon A Time.
  4. I may be a bit too excited for the new Star Trek movie and the second Hobbit movie.
  5. I can’t wait to watch Brave with my daughter.
  6. I have too much yarn in the house…  and bought more today!
  7. I don’t have as much time as I’d like to read, blogs or books

My one problem is that I don’t get to read too many blogs.  There are a few that I subscribe to, that I don’t want to miss an entry for.  But not 10.  A few of the ones I do read are big, multi-contributor blogs, ones that probably don’t “need” to be nominated for an award.  Anyway, here they are:

Chicken Nuggets and  Elmo (she has a second blog – Clean. Green. Eat. Repeat)

This Mumma’s Life (she also has a second blog – This Mumma’s Style)

Mrs. Odie

And now, to Russian join some yarn to continue on my afghan :)

Gah!  Today I realized that the DVR didn’t record the new episode of “The Walking Dead.”  While Stu was putting Teagan down, I hunted through the timers, through the on-screen schedules.  No luck.  I found the timer, but no shows.  Turns out, that Dish isn’t carrying AMC any longer.  Poop!!  So frustrating.

At least American Horror Story is on FX, so we won’t miss that!

Wanna hear a secret?  I watch Glee.  And I like it.  Well, most times, even though the writers are never consistent and they have a few story lines that they could have treated much better.  They have had a lot of chances to do a better thing, but haven’t taken enough.  But that’s fodder for a rant, and this isn’t going to be a rant.

I’m halfway through the Whitney tribute episode – last night was Girls Night Out.  Yay! And double yay for DVR’s! – and I am absolutely blown away by Kurt‘s rendition of  “I Have Nothing”.

I’m not a big Whitney fan, although her life, and death, made me sad.  I’m impressed that Chris Colfer, a guy, was able to pull the vocals of this song off.

I also enjoyed Blaine‘s version of “It Not Right But It’s Okay”.

I think the resolution of the storyline of Kurt cheating via text with Blaine was a bit too simplistic, too easy.  But it is a bubblegum show after all.  A normally fun guilty pleasure.

It’s been a long day, although somehow I was able to sneak in not one but two naps, and I want to get to Once Upon A Time on the DVR before the baby cries again.  She’s been bizarrely cranky tonight, and just doesn’t want to stay down.  She’s also started biting again, so I think there may be teeth working their way out.  Not that I’m complaining too much, 11 months and only two teeth so far has been a dream.  It wasn’t this easy nursing Teagan, who had many more sharp bity teeth much, much earlier.  Still, it would be nice if Ashlin didn’t bite at all.  Because, damn!  Those teeth are sharp!

So, we spent the weekend up at my parents, for my dad’s birthday.  LaLa, of course, did her shopping magic and had fun new toys for the girls…  My little Irish Princesses.  Princesses who worship their grandparents.

It’s hot.  It’s going to be hot again tomorrow.  Stu said he’d put the air on tomorrow.  Yay!

Maybe it’s the heat, maybe there are still some postpartum hormones running rampant, maybe I’m just too tired.  Things moved me.  Things that I think would normally not bother me, got to me.

This moved me.  I’m not really a Meredith Viera fan, but I do think she’s funny and can make people reveal things that they didn’t necessarily want to, but this really got to me.  So many people loved her and wanted to honor her in such a big way on her last day.  I will miss her.  I find it heartwarming that she could make such an impact on so many people, and in such a short time – she was only on the show for five years. One can only wish to have this sort of impact on the people in our lives.

I also found this today:

Sometimes there is crying in baseball.

Maybe I’m turning into a big softie.

Then I read this, and got very mad.  It’s crazy that a school is asking this type of question on an enrollment form.  It’s not any of their business.  Then I got thinking about my two daughters.  (It still feels weird saying that).  Is Ashlin going to be considered at a disadvantage because of my uterine problems?  Do I owe her an apology because of the  nature of her birth?  Will Teagan have a biological advantage because she was a “natural” birth?  Am I now worrying about nothing?

Oh, I know I am.  I sat and listened to Ashlin chatter away – like Teagan never did* – and the worries and concerns melted away.  She’a so quick to smile.  Problems seem smaller when she does.

* Teagan used to coo and make noises, but she was a very quiet baby compared to Ashlin.  Ashlin never seems to be quiet, awake or asleep, with the majority of her noises being happy and totally cute.

March 14, 2011

So, last night was not a fun night.  I fell asleep on the sofa – yay, almost a nightly occurrence though – and moved up to bed around 11.  I slept about 40 minutes, but  woke up again, thanks to my back.  Stupid SPD and torked hip are throbbing.  I get up, get a pillow to put between my knees to see if that helps.  It doesn’t really.  I try a rolled towel.  That doesn’t work either.  Stretches, nope.  Eventually Stu came up and suggested I see if I could take an Alieve.  Nope.  Can’t take them.  I did take two Tylenol though, and was able to get back to sleep until about 2:30am.

So, I go downstairs to see if watching TV will distract me enough from my back pain to go back to sleep.  I watched two Top Gear episodes.  LOL.  (Last time, it was Gordon Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares).  Weekend late night TV sucks.  Not having WTNH sucks.*

So, up this morning at 6am, and watch some news.  Put Teagan’s blankie back on hoping she sleeps at least another hour.  Try to fall asleep in bed as I’m upstairs.  Nope.  Doesn’t work.  Get up just before the alarm and shower.

Stu gets himself up and goes down and makes me some coffee – sweetheart he is.  I dash out to my Chiro appointment – I was late for it :(  I called to let him know I’d be late.  We go through all the adjustments – left hip, no crack.  Right hip, crack.  Midback – crack.  Upper back – crack!  Neck left – Crack!  Neck right – Crack crack crack!  Pubic symphysis – OUCH!  I don’t think that cracked.  Chiro has me go back to my right side so he can try to crack and straighten my left hip.  Again, no luck.  By then, I’m nearly in tears.  I try to tell him it’s not him, just me, overtired, in pain, ready to be done with it all.

He asked if I could come back tomorrow.  I said yes.  I hope he can fix my hips.

I spent quite a bit of tonight leaning against a heating pad.  I really enjoyed having the heated seats this morning/early afternoon in the car.  Stu hunted down the heating pad for me.  Most of this afternoon I spent doing Cow/Cat stretches, tilts, open knees chest and then the crazy eight hip thing.  Trying to prep my hip for being popped.  I couldn’t sit once I got home from dropping off Stu at the car place, and our taxes off at the accountant.  We had lunch at our favorite pizza place, where we haven’t eaten since we’ve moved.  We can’t find good pizza at the new house.

I really want my back to feel better.

* PS.  It’s BACK!!!  WTNH is back on Dish!  Woo Woo!!!

March 10, 2011

Last night was a long night.  Started off watching Bubba Ho-Tep with Bruce Campbell.  I had heard/read that it was good, and it has Bruce – how could it be It was horrible.  Then the head cold that just won’t go away, that I’ve had since Sunday, doesn’t seem to respond to Benedryl any more.  (Yes, I had to take something, anything, it was so bad).  Eventually,  the Benedryl finally knocked me out.  Knocked me out so much I didn’t hear Teagan wake to a night terror or something.  Stu said she was sobbing horribly.  I didn’t hear her.  I may have noticed (a little) when he came to bed.

Around 1:45 I did wake up, in pain.  My back was throbbing.  First thought I had was that it was contractions.  I’ve been having Braxton Hicks and random contractions for three weeks or so already *.  It wasn’t that though, thankfully.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t get back to sleep, I couldn’t find a position in bed that would make it go away.  Down to the sofa, where I sat up for a while, as even reclining hurt.

As as aside, I’m pissed at Dish TV right now.  They’ve stopped carrying WTNH, which was the only station that had any sort of news at 3am.  Other than the cable news stations, of course.  So, there’s nothing to watch at 2:30, other than The Daily Show and The Colbert Report and then 1000 Ways to Die.

Sometime around 4am I finally fall asleep again.  The alarm went off way too early today.

I had another Chiropractor appointment this morning.  I told him about the pain.  He gave me some exercises to do that may help – one to stretch my lower back, one for my legs and one for the SPD.

So, again, left hip joint whatever doesn’t crack, but almost!  There was movement today, right one does.  Mid-back cracked, and that felt good.  Neck was uncomfortable, but feels better now.  My lower back is still bothering me, I’ve been sitting up most of the day, doing some cat/cow stretches as well, they just feel so good.

I have another appointment for Saturday morning.  Fingers crossed that my back is ok until then.

* The Braxton Hicks are getting more and more painful.  I can’t walk fast or I’ll contract.  Sometimes just bending over will start one up.  Sometimes they’re 4 minutes apart, sometimes as much as 30 minutes.  They’re not real contractions that the midwives are worried about.  I haven’t needed to breathe through them, so, it’s just practice.  I’m tired of practice.

March 1, 2011 ~ Uh Oh!

Teagan LOVES America’s Funniest Home Videos.  No, she does not realize it’s at least 10 years old.  They always have dogs and cats on.  Arf Arf, Meow, Meow!  It comes on after the morning news, and as we are doing a mad dash to get everything ready to go to day care/work, we usually don’t turn the TV off.  Teagan gets to watch it most mornings while she’s eating breakfast.

Today, as Stu brought her into the room, he mentions that her favorite show is on.  She goes “Uh Oh show!”  LOL!

Because I really don’t want to post about the trouble with our pocket door, I’ll post something that makes both hubby and I laugh our butts off:

What the French Toast!

It seems that this commercial has an internet life of it’s own, with sites listing the “lyrics,” the euphemisms used:

Dirty Mouth Test 37

A woman bursts into an office holding a box. She scowlingly says to her husband: “You son of a biscuit-eating bulldog.”
Husband: What the French toast
Wife: Did you think I wouldn’t find out about your little doo doo head cootie queen?
Mistress: Who are you calling a cootie queen? You lint-licker!
Wife: Pickle you kumquat!
Husband: You’re overreacting.
Wife: No, Bill, overreacting was when I put your convertible into a wood chipper, Stinky McStinkface!
Mistress: You Hoboken.

The Orbit spokeswoman is off to the side and says, “Fabulous! New Orbit Raspberry Mint cleans another dirty mouth.”

There are also a ton of sites – even a Wiki entry! – for this commercial, even several facebook sites (can’t get there, so can’t link them).

Laughter is much better than reality sometimes.
