Brave Girl Sleeping During A New Hope

Over the past few weeks we’ve started watching the original Star Wars trilogy with the girls.  Of course we started there.  There’s no way we’d let their first impressions of Star Wars be of JarJar Binks.

Each movie needed at least two attempts.  The first time there were too many questions and Ashlin fell asleep.  The second viewing of A New Hope went much better.

This past Sunday we tried The Empire Strikes Back.  This screening went much, much better although there were still a bunch of questions, and Teagan was a bit confused by Leia’s hair change (though she remembered the buns) and she couldn’t remember Han from minute to minute.

A couple of the questions from Teagan were:

  1. Can we live in a snow fort too?
  2. Why did they change Leia’s hair
  3. What’s the aminal-friend (wookie) doing to the ship?
  4. Did the ice monster hurt Luke?
  5. Why did they cut the aminal open?  (Tauntaun)
  6. Can I have a light saber?
  7. What is a swamp slug?
  8. How do worms live in space?
  9. Why is Yoda so short?
  10. What’s a bounty hunter?
  11. Is [that boy] Han dead?
  12. What is suspended animation?
  13. Will they get him out?
  14. Why is Luke sad if he found his father?

Questions.  She’s Full of Questions

She went to talk to Stu (who had to get some work one) before she went to bed.  Initially, she didn’t like the dark side, but thanks to Stu, thinks it may be better because they have cookies.  Well, she’s not sure…

Ashlin was pretty good, she had her own questions along the same lines as above.  But she was very excited to see her SW Advent Calendar figurines in the movie, more so than she was during A New Hope. (We really only saw the Jawa and their sand crawler, the storm trooper and the imperial destroyer in that movie.).  Eventually her questions petered out as she fell asleep right after Luke got to Dagobah.  She and I watched what she missed Monday after she got home from school.

Both girls found lots of joy in telling me that my phone was ringing..  I have had the Imperial March as my ringtone for the past five years, at least.  My girls think they are the funniest people in the room!

The Snow Tired Her Out!

I still need to share Ashlin’s questions/brain dump, because well:

We had to discuss the exogorth again, and how worms could live in space. She wants to have Yoda’s soup for dinner and IG-88 is her favorite bounty hunter. Bossk is a bit scary, and she likes how Darth Vader snores.  She cried over C3-PO being torn apart, Han being frozen and Luke losing his hand.  She cried because Luke was crying.

My favorite parting thought of hers was “Maybe Darth isn’t nice because he misses Luke.  Everyone needs to be with who they love.”

PS.  Teagan calls him Dark Vader.

Happy Birthday to Stu! How cool is it to have a Star Wars birthday?  At his daughter’s request, I made cupcakes.  After the girls ate dinner, I lit the candle, he blew it out as we sang for him.  Then everyone got a cupcake.

Excuse me, waiter!

After eating more dinner than her sister, Ashlin devoured her cupcake.  And then called the waiter for another cupcake.

All dun!

Ashlin gave us the sign she was all done… a bit prematurely.  She looked down and saw more cupcake, which she finished immediately, and then tried to lick the crumbs off the tray just to be sure she got it all.

Cupcake!

Teagan did stop singing long enough to eat her cupcake…

It was a good day.

And Teagan had a very good week.  So we had a very good week.  Birthdays and cupcakes are a great end to the week.

Happy birthday, Stu.  Love you.

As we were trying to herd the kids tonight, Stu told me he sent today’s blog entry. Yeah, yeah I thought.  We’ll see about that. Maybe I want to write about how Ashlin discovered how to use a snack trap. Or maybe how quickly she can get to standing now. Or how she will not just sit any more, but needs to crawl, or move or something. Or even what Teagan dreamed about the other night – not twinkle stars! Or maybe about the funny thing Teagan said while getting her ready for bed.

Well, you know what? He was right! He had sent me this link:

I haven’t been able to watch too much of it yet, but OMFG!!1! it’s awesome.

I need some popcorn.

It’s been a busy week.  Let’s just play catch up!

Last Friday we went out to dinner, the four of us!  We were on the hunt for good pizza, but the place we were recommended looked to be in a very bad part of town, so we didn’t go in.  Instead we ate at SBC, who gave Teagan a pirate mask.  At first she didn’t want to even touch it, but she eventually warmed up to it, and we had to sneak it out.  LOL!

Ashlin just chilled.  She was such a good baby during dinner.  Slept almost the entire time and didn’t fuss.  She woke up at the end.  Look!  You can see the mask’s hiding spot.

Saturday, we went to my friend’s son’s Confirmation party.  Left Teagan with my parents, to try to get her to nap – she didn’t, but had “quiet time.”  Ashlin came with us to the party, and was passed around.  She ended up sleeping on just about every one there.  LOL!

We got her after the party was over, but before everyone left, and she got very very shy.  I had to pick her up and carry her in – Stu had Ashlin at the time – Teagan was that freaked out.  I’ve never seen her react that strongly, normally the social butterfly, the party planner.  She’s taken over at day care, handing out toys, telling the other kids, the older kids what to play with.  After a little bit, she warmed up, so that was good.  A balloon helped.  I don’t know why I don’t have any pictures from that.  Watching her play with the balloons was great :)

Sunday, we celebrated Stu’s birthday with family.  Teagan sang for her dad, and got to eat some cake.  So sweet.

0217 050111 – happy birthday hat!

Monday and Tuesday were blurs, as Ashlin decided that she didn’t want to sleep much at 4am… So I spent both days in fogs.  With naps.  Wednesday was Star Wars day!  Woo woo!!

Sleeping at Group

Sleeping at Group

Thursday, I went to the Breast feeding Support Group, and bumped into a friend of a friend. Such a small world.  Her daughter is three days younger Ashlin, but we didn’t cross paths at the hospital.

Ashlin had a good time too!  She slept through half of it.  Next to an Ashlyn.

We ended up meeting up today to go for a walk on the beach. It was a good walk. It was a beautiful day.

Star Wars Series

So, Happy Star Wars Day!!  And Happy Birthday to Stu!

One of the sites I like to go to had an interesting story about how today was both Star Wars Day and Teen Pregnancy day.  Odd combo, weird that they’re both today.

They also had a story about “The Pirate Movie.”  I loved this movie when I first saw it.  It still has a soft spot in my  heart, though it is, as the author said, a terrible movie.  But how can you not like a movie with singing pirates and princesses?  LOL!  And a happy ending??  Makes me want to watch “Xanadu” again.

May the Fourth Be With You!

Darth Vader (Prowse) makes his first entrance ...

Yesterday two of the sites I lke reading (Bad Mom’s Club and Moxie BirdMama Pop’s offshoot) both had articles about the same VW commercial.  Today, Stu saw it on TV.

I love when I get to see things first.  He’s always beating me to punches on things – could be that I fall asleep at 9pm most nights.  LOL.  Anyway, I’m calling myself winner on this… Though it really is Star Wars who wins here:

How can you not love it?    Makes me glad that we named our daughter either after a sith or a Jedi…  Darth Maëlys has a nice ring to it.  LOL.  We need a costume as cool now.

Another cool entry from the Bad Mom’s Club.

The Kessel Run

This guy has awesome art.  And such a nifty idea – combining two of my favorite things!

The Hunt

If I was up to date on my blog reading, I would have seen this (on my own!) about the same time Stu showed it to me.  It was sweet that he did.  He knows that I love Pooh.  He’s seen my copy of Pooh’s Little Instruction Book, as well as Eeyore’s version.  I’m sure he know’s I have the Tao of Pooh and the Te of Piglet.  We even call Teagan Piglet half the time.  I also have the original Star Wars movies (VHS!!), as well as Special Editions (DVD, and Han Shot First!!) and the Boxed Set (DVD!)  I may admit to owing the first trilogy, even though it sucked, mostly.

I’m going to have to check to see if I even have Winnie-The-Pooh or House at Pooh Corner.  I do think I have a few board books for Teagan, maybe those will work as well.
