What to muse about today?

WhaThis morning, Ashlin was too hungry for hugs! It may be one sign of the Apocalypse.  She had already had her first breakfast at the house, but it must not have been enough. Ashlin will usually hug everyone at day care when she comes in. Today?  Nope, she had no time for suck niceties. She even walked past two of her favorite teachers.  When Teacher S asked for her hug, Ashlin simply raised her hand and said “hi!”.   She then went right up to the table where breakfast was waiting, picked through the stack of bowls until she found the right one. She held it up like Excalibur and announced “pink one,” grabbed a handful of cheerios from the big bowl and put them in hers. Then she sat down, like a princess, waiting for someone big to pour her milk.

Such a personality.

Today Teagan colored easter eggs for the first time. It was almost fun. Well, parts were fun. Actually, most of it was fun. She was so excited when she saw all the colors. She was amazed when the eggs changed colors.

I have to stop and remember that she doesn’t know about things… Why you shouldn’t bang the eggs together, or bend the holders, or eat the wax crayon. Some times I assume she’s a little person that’s been around, not one that’s brand new. In a way, she does still have that new car smell. I need to remember that more often.

She really enjoyed it, and she did slow down a bit, not being the total dervish that she normally is.

She didn’t quite understand why she shouldn’t put her fingers in the cups of color… She has some Easter egg colored fingers now.

And the dye took much, much longer than I remember. Longer than a pre-schooler can be expected to wait. You can see her willing the egg to turn pink.

I’m sure that when I was a kid, the eggs picked up color a lot faster! Or are those just rose colored glasses?

Our eggs did turn out ok, after all. And a little wax isn’t going to hurt her.

I am looking forward to next year, when we may be a bit more artistic with our eggs.

She’s looking forward to having more deviled eggs too.

Ashlin by Teagan

She’s a budding artiste! This is Teagan’s drawing from tonight. She drew her sister. Totally looks like her too.

I ask Teagan to draw me something. Tonight, I asked her to draw Ashlin. She made the yellow circles.  Then she picked up an orange marker. I said that Ashlin didn’t have orange in her, but that she did have blue eyes. So Teagan drew the eyes. Then the mouth. I suggested using black for the hair, as the brown marker was dried up.

This may be the first picture she’s colored that sort of looks like something, like what it may be.  Her first true portrait.

It sort of looks like a Picasso :)

She does lovely watercolors.  I should get her some watercolors for home.

20111121-150341.jpgI spent the better part of today moving furniture and taping off my daughter’s room.  A year and a half after moving in, we’re finally getting to painting her room.

One reason was that I had misplaced the paint chip for the color we had painted her room in the old house and couldn’t remember the color.  I really wanted to paint the room the same color.  It was such a lovely green.  So calm.  Eventually, I found the chip.  Then lost it again, so put it in A Very Safe Place™ in the hopes of not losing it again.  Which, of course, I did.

Then, there never seemed to be time.  Always something else to do, some place else to be.  And then, trying to paint a room with Teagan, and now Ashlin, around would not be a good thing.

This week, we both took vacation.  And both girls are going to be in day care.  Almost unheard of free time!  Or, well, unoccupied time anyway.

So, we’re painting Teagan’s room tomorrow.  Stu picked up the paint  yesterday.  The green.  Cypress Green.  A green that matches her nursery set wonderfully.  I suppose that she’s probably old enough to help pick out a new pattern and color, but I’m not ready for her to be that big yet.

Her room is going to be painted green.

Ashlin’s room is just fine for now :)

Ok.  I stole this from Nina…  It seems a bit on the depressing side, but that could be because I chose the darker colors first.  I guess I skew the results a little :o

Your Complete Personal Profile

You are the sort of person that needs a peaceful environment. You seek release from stress and freedom from conflicts and disagreements, of which you seem to have had more than your fair share. But you are taking pains to control the situation by proceeding cautiously and you are right in doing so as you are a very sensitive person.

You are totally dissatisfied with your present situation. Matters are not going right for you and you are seeking a means of escape. Your mental state of mind necessitates that you need to change your thinking patterns. Remember, if one particular modus operandi doesn’t seem to work, then try something different.

You are a perfectionist in everything that you put your hand to. You are demanding and very exacting in the standards you apply to your choice of colleagues and friends -perhaps you demand too much from people. That perfection you seek in a particular person is illusive – perhaps it does not even exist.

The stress and tension that you are experiencing at this time is perhaps due to your inability to achieve security and appreciation from those closest to you. This is resulting in considerable pressures. You find the situation as it stands most frustrating. You are the sort of person that would like to experience all and everything very intensely but unfortunately you are not receiving the warmth and understanding that you feel you are entitled to. Matters are not going too well. You seek a sympathetic ear but it is not forthcoming. This situation is extremely nerve-racking – and what is more humiliating is that no-one seems to care and you are powerless to do anything about it.

You are inclined to be too trusting and you feel that you need to be on your guard against the possibility that your endeavours and actions may be misunderstood. Too often you have been taken advantage of and you have been mentally abused. Now you are seeking a relationship which can provide peace of mind, where you can be yourself and not have the need to put on a false front.

Paint.  It’s amazing how such a simple can of paint can make such a difference to a room.  It’s amazing how much work it actually is.  It’s not easy to pick colors either.  Such dilemmas… Do I want it to be a green base, a brown base?  What should the accent color be?  UGH!  Well, after much internal – and external – debate I did pick a color for the bedroom.
Finally!  Getting the beige off the trim and doors in the room.  Getting the sea-foam-blue-which-is-really-green, go figure, off the walls for something a bit more subdued, subtle.  Yes, when I moved in I picked Crayola Crayon colors for the wall as a protest to the forced on me white of all the apartment walls.  But as the green on the walls is such a strong color, I needed to get the walls primed.  Ick.  Thankfully, there was MUCH help there.    It was a bit weird sleeping in the room last night, the walls almost seemed to glow white.  Ok, so now the ceiling needs to be touched up, refreshed.  Ok.  That should be done today or tonight.  The walls should be soon, very soon… maybe tomorrow, maybe Friday.
Finally!  The color I ended up picking is “Zenful,” which is barely green/brown tinted white.  “Bamboo Shoot” will be the accent color, slightly darker than the walls, but in the same family.  Yes, I guess you could call it a beige, but it’s not the super-ugly beige that I have been living with the past five years or so.
I had been coming up with excuses why NOT to finish the trim…  need to repair the door, need to replace the closet doors… need to pick a new color for the walls, as I’m sick of the green…  it’s amazing how long those excuses work, and aid in avoiding the actual work of painting and getting the ugly colors out…
I’m so happy I have help for this room.  I did (most) of the living room myself – emptied, taped, painted – and it took over three days of near solid work.  This will probably take the same number of days, but won’t seem to take the same time…  Granted, I have someone doing a large majority of it, but I’ll dig in when I can, where I can.
Yay.  Soon I will have a beautiful bedroom.
