Whatever!

What to muse about today?

I love APOD.  I’ve blogged about the site in the past, how they put so many amazing pictures up.  It’s a surprise what they’ll have next.  I don’t always get there every day, but I try, and when I miss, I will go back and catch up.  The pictures (and the little lessons attached) are that good.

Well, this morning, Stu told me I had to go look at APOD’s picture, that it looked like something from the Little Prince.  And it did!

The Little Prince is one of my favorite books.  I read it every year or so.  In French.  I do have a copy in English (and a coloring book!) waiting for the time when Teagan is old enough to enjoy the story.

PS.  Thank goodness the weather has been better – especially after the record breaking heat of July!  We still don’t have working air conditioning, but we’re getting closer to getting it fixed!  Woo woo!!

Just some fun fluff for a cool evening.  This site is fun.  They usually have something odd, or a “what were they thinking?!?!” type of entry.   Today they had this entry about cute baby pictures :)  I wish I had even thought of doing this.  When Teagan was this young, and I was still on maternity leave, I didn’t have my act together any where near enough to do this, even if I had thought of it.  I was happy to have gotten to the store and back :)

 Totally cute :)

PS.  I knew about this before Stu :)  He always seems to get the net things first!

Yay!  We survived both the flight and the weekend!  It was actually a very good time.  Teagan handled the flight down very well.  So much so that we got compliments on how good a baby she was.

The majority of the trip was taken up with family – obligations, lunches, dinners.  We did get a little time to go to the beach, the hotel pool and a fortress.  Teagan had a pretty good time in the ocean, shaking off getting sea water in her face until Stu and I passed her right as a wave hit her.  (My mom has all those pictures!)  We then went into the pool, because mom wanted to get a picture of her similar to one she had taken of me when I was in PR at 7 months – sitting alone on the pool steps.

We got a few good ones!  Teagan really enjoys the pool.  We got to go in the pool the next day – the ocean was too rough – and she put her face in the water several times…  would kick and splash.  So much fun to see her learn about the water!

Memorial service for Abuelita was nice, but all in spanish.  Lunch afterward was sort of fun.  Sitting with family that I don’t know well, that Stu doesn’t know at all, hoping they remember to speak english for him.  For us.  My spanish is too rusty :(  Everyone was totally taken with Teagan, la muñeca.  Turns out that “cousins” have a beach house that they might let us borrow.    Yay!

We ended up on Monday being able to get to the Fortress of San Felipe del Morro.  Turns out that my great-grandfather helped build the lighthouse.  Cool.

The way back wasn’t as successful as the way down, and a little bit melancholy.  I always feel sad leaving Puerto Rico.  I do so enjoy being there, even with the humidity.  Teagan wasn’t quite as good the way back, but we deserved it.  We really abused her schedule during the trip.  She didn’t get fed as regularly – don’t worry, we did feed her.  She didn’t get to sleep as often and as long as normal – she napped between events, in the car, during lulls, while sightseeing…

She cried several times by the end of the trip and also on the plane.  We didn’t get the same compliments as we got off back in Connecticut as we did on the way down, although when she was happy she made friends all around her – the lady behind us, the one across the asile from us, and the steward.  I was totallly blown away that she slept during the landing – didn’t need the bottle of milk that I saved for her for the return.  She only woke up as we put her into the cold stroller.  Almost midnight.  Poor baby.

I hope her routine – and she – recovers quickly.

Yesterday we took Teagan to Mystic Aquarium.  It was a total blast!  It was family day (the first ever! and we got tickets).  They did “behind the scenes” tours, and showed us how they filter the HUGE tank, where they keep the newly arrived rescues, where they operate (if necessary) on the rescues and sick animals.  Very cool!  They also brought out a few penguins for close up viewing.  (Mechugna: THANK YOU!).  We had a blast, Teagan had a blast – and a few blowouts :)

The Piglet could see the larger fish and animals.  Fantastic!  She totally tracked penguins, as well as rays and sharks from the inside exhibits.  Her eyes would get bigger and she would turn her head and follow them as far as she could.  She’d smile and look at me with those big bright eyes.  Then giggle, and do it all over again.  It was amazing to watch her discover new parts of the world around her.

I think I see something!Watching Penguins 3

Oh!  LOOK!

What’s that?  It’s a penguin! Watching Penguins 4

I can see us going to the aquarium many times in the future!

Squeals of joy

Squee!!  Our little Miss Kicky-pants.  LOVE when Teagan does this…  she started squealing with glee about a week ago, but regularly the past few days.  I wish the light was better for this video, but couldn’t move to get a better angle or she might have stopped.  LOVE how she’s squealing, then licking the monkey, a little laugh, then beating the hell out of the hanging toys, repeat.  Kicking the entire time.  Such joy.  LOL!

Because I owe you a picture of Teagan sleeping :)

sleeping baby

She fell asleep while playing on her play mat this morning.  One  minute she’s beating up the lion, monkey and giraffe, and the next she’s out like a light.  Before her normal morning nap time too!

I’m not sure what’s up with her these past few days.  There used to be lots of happy and giggly Teagan, now, there are times when she just doesn’t want to be put down.  She becomes princess cranky-pants.  It’s not that she’s not getting enough sleep, though her nap schedule seems to have changed.  She’s eating a lot more than she normally does too.  I could be guilty of stuffing a breast in her mouth to get her to calm down and become my favorite giggle-face again.

Could be that three month growth spurt that I’ve been hearing about.  She doesn’t need another spurt.  Her two month one had her grow 2 inches and gain 2 pounds in just under a month.  Can’t she stay small for a bit longer?

August 22, 2009 *

Today was too hot!  Was very glad for the a/c today, although for a quite bit of the day we didn’t have it – didn’t have any power at all as there was a tree or a branch or something down.  Twice.  Fun.

Anyway, once the power came back on, Stu watched some soccer – football :).  The Manchester teams played teams with W’s.  Teagan sat with him and the two of them just hung out for a while…

I had such a great time watching them from across the room…  Teagan really got into the game:

After the game, we went back to playing.  She tried to roll over – from back to front – again.  She keeps getting closer and closer, and as soon as she figures out where that pesky arm goes, she’ll be there.

Almost!
Almost!
Almost there!!
Almost!!

And then a session of licking her toys:

how does this taste?

Followed by a short session of  tummy time…

I hate tummy time
I hate tummy time

Not a favorite pastime, as you can see.   She does allow me to leave her on her stomach for a bit longer and longer each day though…

After all that excitement, she fell asleep!  You’d think I had a picture of that, but alack!  No.  We were actually happy she fell asleep yesterday as early as she did – she was total princess cranky-pants all afternoon.

* This was supposed to be published yesterday, it was started yesterday, the pictures were from yesterday.  WordPress decided that it doesn’t like IE6 and ate the entry before I saved the final draft :(   Thankfully, there was a “not quite ready for prime-time” draft there to use :)
