Whatever!

What to muse about today?

This weekend was my high school reunion. The big one. 25 years. Ugh. I feel old. But it was fun! Hurricane Irene was staring us down, dampened events a little bit, but we still had a good time.

Friday was the best night, a much more laid back event at an Irish Pub. Though Saturday was quite nice. I got to dance with my husband :) Several times.

It was nice seeing some of my classmates, friends, again. A very good friend came in from Texas. We never get to see him enough. So nice to be able to be able to give him a hug, and just sit and chat.

Right now, I’m sitting at my parents, with no power, waiting for the storm to let up. Both the girls are sleeping, as are LaLa and PopPop. The house is quiet except for the sound of the wind and rain. I do like the sound of storms, though prefer a bit less wind. Eventually, this pseudo-calm will be broken by my mom, the kids, the tv, but until then, i will enjoy. Especially while I still have some power in the iPad.

Somehow, we will have to find out if the roads are passable. It’s very possible that they will be, or most of them, as we’re a bit north and west of Irene’s path. The final leg of the trip, well that may be a different story. Once we get off the highways and main roads the trip may become difficult.

I just really want to know that tree didn’t fall on the house, like one did on dad’s car. I’d like to know that a window didn’t blow in.

I guess it really doesn’t matter, we’re safe, the girls are safe, my husband is safe, my family is safe… And that’s the important thing. I’d hate for anything to happen to these precious people.

Oh… And there’s the thunder…

Did you get home OK? Was the house OK? We had no damage, but lost power for about 6 hours and cable/internet/phone for 18 hours.

Yes! We made it home safe and sound! House was ok too! We had some flooded roads and a few downed trees to go around on the way home, but made it home in good time. There were a lot less cars than normal on the roads. We didn’t have any trees down in our yard, but the downhill and across the street neighbors weren’t as lucky. Looks like uphill neighbor lost some roof too. There are a lot of downed trees and power lines in the neighborhood too… Stu had a fun time trying to get to day care today, basically needed to take the “long” way… but they were open. Our power did go out – clocks were flashing – but it was back on by the time we got home.

Old neighbors did ok, though the entire town is out of power – 100% outage. Crazy. Most of the other shoreline towns are 100% without power too.

Kat, Thank you! We did make out pretty well… better than many of our friends and former neighbors.
