What to muse about today?

Yesterday, everyone slept late.  Yay!  Even Ashlin, she sort of slept in.  She only got up the once at 4ish, and then again at almost 7, but went back to sleep after about 20 minutes of happy chatter alternating with pacifier insertion.  I was able to sleep again too! Double yay!

Then, right after breakfast, and some frantic packing, we went to the beach.  Yay!

Wanting to beat the thunderstorms and generally icky weather, we headed out early.  Got there around 10:30.  (With two kids, 10:30 is early).  Met up with friends, and let the toddlers go.  Teagan really likes playing with G.  And they play very well together.  We all made sandcastles, and then they were promptly smashed by the kids, even before flags and decorations could be put on.

Teagan ran away from the surf, but eventually got her toes wet, though reluctantly.  She allowed me to dip her in, then asked to stand just out of reach of the actual surf, but close enough to still be in the water.  One inch of water.  Not sure why she’s so intimidated by the ocean and the waves, I guess they are a bit scary when you’re less than three feet tall.  (OMG, she’s three feet tall.  When did she get that tall?)

There was sand eating and sand throwing. A little bit of chasing and then some climbing on the lifeguard chair. Once the guards showed up, the kids were a bit more restrained.  Not much though.

We ended up having a great time.  Ashlin got a little grumpy around nap time, but I wrapped her up in a blanket and walked and shushed her to sleep. The swaddle is still powerful on this one.  Every time I tried to lay her down on a chair she would wake up and start crying again.  Stu ended up sitting down and holding her while I chased after Teagan and G.

We had a late lunch of pizza – YUM! – from our favorite place that we don’t get to much since we moved.  The pizza out by us now isn’t bad, but just isn’t the same.  They need to have a Greek style place open up here.

On the way home, a very tired Teagan started her “No Nap!” chant, in her enthusiastic and loud way.  Poor Ashlin, who just wanted to sleep, kept looking over at her, frustrated.  Eventually, we got Teagan to quiet down a bit.  She surprised me when she broke out into her rendition of “Five Little Monkeys.”

So glad I had the video camera with me!

Yeah, lots of head trauma with the monkeys… I hope they get better, or stop cracking their heads open…

Shame you haven’t gotten to the beach… We’ve only gotten twice, except for the walks I did with just Ashlin and another mom… So, we’re not doing that much better for living as close as we do.

Heh. She is very enthusiastic about her singing. LOL! Sometimes I wish she’d be a bit more quiet, though it is fun listening to her make up her own words, lyric and tunes…

Katie is not supposed to be this old. Not yet. You’re not that old…. nor am I!
