What to muse about today?

Ooops!  I never posted this!

So, NASA finally announced the name of their new node…  Tranquility.  This isn’t even the name that came in second place!  What the!?!?  If they weren’t going to go with Colbert, which I understand even though he did win, shouldn’t they have gone with the next popular?

Ok.  Fine.  NASA can be a rogue entity.  You do have to appreciate that they are still going to name something after the winner of their contest:

But the U.S. space agency did make one concession. It said it will make a new Combined Operational Load-Bearing External Resistance Treadmill (COLBERT) — a fancy way of saying “exercise treadmill” — a key fixture in the space station.

“Your name will be in space in a very important place,” Williams assured Colbert on his TV show. “Everyday somebody will have to jump on the COLBERT,” she said.

Tee hee hee!

Ok, so, seriously, NASA sort of explains why they chose Tranquility:

Tranquility Base was the touchdown site for Apollo 11, the first manned lunar landing, 40 years ago this July. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon, exploring part of the geographical area known as Mare Tranquillitatis, or the Sea of Tranquility.

Sort of hard to pick on such an illustrious name…

I guess this is how this “event” will end.  It was fun watching it!

PS.  Fartmonkey came in last with 7 votes!  LOL!
