I voted today.  Yay me!  In and out, easy peasy.  It was my first time going to the polls at the new house.  A few months ago I finally got around to changing my registration, although for a Presidential Election, I would have driven to my old polling place.  It turns out, I vote where the girls will go to school in a few years. Unsure as to how the turnout would be at this new place, and not wanting to feel panicked tonight, I waited this morning, and headed out a little past morning rush hour.  I don’t know if I needed to have worried or not as there was absolutely no line there at all, it was a mostly empty parking lot.  The only waiting I had to do was for passing traffic and a few older people trying to find a parking spot.

It was interesting.  I saw signs posted outside about required ID’s.  I had a few with me, as when I renewed my drivers license this summer, I didn’t get a certified id, or whatever it is that I needed my passport to get, I had only brought my expiring license.  I was concerned that they’d be cranky about it.  Anyway, it was accepted, but they said that a photo ID was required.  It’s not required if you have alternate ID.  Makes me wonder if they turned anyone away for not having one.

I am so glad this election is almost over.  All the election commercials that they’re playing every single ad break are just too much.  Especially those for Murphy and McMahon, those are just downright nasty.  We just have the non-stop projections for a while, I’m sure a ton of recounting, and I’m sure we won’t know who won until sometime tomorrow or even later.  Fingers crossed it won’t be too drawn out!

It would be nice if everyone could just move on, no matter what happens tonight.  It’s hard to see all the nastiness and meanness and general vitriol that we’ve had.  Can’t we just be nice to each other?  I can always hope!

I always feel sorry for California and Hawaii.  They are so eager with their winner projection, I’m sure they always feel a sense of redundancy  and wonder why they even bother.

Driving in to the office today, AltNation played a new song by Django Django that was awesome.  First time hearing it and I found myself taping along.  My brain kept being reminded of other bands, but never enough for full fledged comparison.  I’ll need to think about it a bit more…

Oh, wow.  I thought when we moved, I had gotten rid of all the miscellaneous papers and stuff from college.  I guess I was wrong.  Today, I found the Student Directory, with ads from the paleolithic era, back when I went to school.  Too many of the places advertised are no longer there, but one favorite still is.

I also love how they had a drunk driving spot in the Directory, when most of the campus did not have a car.  With most of the best parties on campus – Milkshake night! – why would you need to drive?  A stumble home was all you needed.  And even if you went off campus, most places were a quick walk up High Street.

I remember loving the radio station while in college.  Most of the student shows played music that I would never hear at home, well, except occasionally on WDST, and at weird times of day.  Music was good in high school, but it was amazing in college.  Violent Femmes, REM, INXS, The Smiths, The Cure.  The English Beat, U2 and Depeche Mode were already on my mix tapes.   (Oh, yes, that Chevy commercial with Spandau Ballet cracks me up.  That happens.  You don’t turn off Spandau Ballet).

Tucked in the back of the drawer that the Directory was in were my home-made flash cards for what I call my one elective – Greek & Roman Mythology.  It was an 8am Tuesday-Thursday class, that I took my senior year.  Yes. By choice.  I loved it.  I think it was my one 4.0 class.  I had goldfish named Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, cats named Phoebe and Clio.

It was a nice little trip down memory lane…

Teagan’s new favorite song. And Ashlin’s too!

Stu noticed that Ashlin was rocking out in her seat during the drive to day care the other day. I’ve also seen her enjoy – with enthusiasm – this song. So cute. Much like the snippet of her rocking to Electric Guest, she’ll dance in her seat to Metronomy.

The song came on with all of us in the car, driving home from day care. Stu said that Ashlin liked the song, look at her dance. Teagan was a bit upset that Ashlin liked the song, she also like the song, and only one person can like it at a time. She wanted to like it, but couldn’t if Ashlin did. She started getting upset. Stu and I said that we both liked the song too. And that we were two people liking the same song. More than one person can like a song at a time. It could happen. Really. What about Bohemian Rhapsody? Lots of people like that one.

Teagan then declares that the song was her favorite, and Ashlin’s favorite, and Dada’s favorite and Mama’s favorite. All ones favorite.

Not bad.

PS. My friend passed away late Sunday night. It’s sad and it’s unfair. He will be missed.

Yay. Juan Luis Guerra worked on the songs for the unplugged concert. I think I’m going to need to get me a listen, I’ve always liked Juanes, and the little I got to listen to sounded nice, different and interesting, and well worth it.

I’d like to get to see him, one day.

Driving home from day care with the girls was fun.  As we pulled out of the parking lot, I looked back and Ashlin was totally rocking out to the song on the radio.  Fun, Some Nights.

You can’t really hear the song in the quick  video I grabbed at the stop sign.  The song was just about over too.  I tried to play it from YouTube, but someone pulled up behind us and I had to move along.

I like Some Nights much better than We Are Young, Ashlin has good taste :D

We listened to videos during dinner:

Imagine Dragons, Queen, Electric Guest, Elmo with Elvis Costello, Elmo with Katy Perry, Elmo and some ducks, Elmo with India Arie.  And then Fun again.

It was a fun dinner.  With kicky feet.  And Teagan almost got the alphabet right, after the 5th time listening to Elmo and India Arie.

On this morning’s drive to work AltNation played a new song (to them) by a new band (to them).  Disko Killers by Lowline.  Not a bad tune,  but not the ear worm of a few of the other songs they play in heavy rotation.  It reminded me of Simple Minds a lot, with a touch of the Cult.  Stu, on the other hand, thought it sounded like Garbage.  Made for an interesting conversation:

Stu:  Like Garbage, but not Courtney Love‘s band.  You remember that blond lady from Terminator:  Sarah Connor Chronicles, the one that owned the business from the future?  Her.  She’s the lead singer from Garbage.  It sounds like Garbage’s “Ready to Go” but if a man was the lead singer.

Me:  Oh, I can hear that now.

Neither of us could remember the name of Courtney’s band at the time.  This was in the morning, and I don’t think Stu had his morning tea, and I had not gotten too far down my cup of coffee.

Tee hee hee.

Sometimes it’s fun to car pool.

Update:  The band was Republica, not Garbage.  Neither of us for that right.  Oops.  I guess we’re more tired than we realize.

Let’s talk music again.  This morning as Stu and I were driving in, we talked about the ear worms from the other day.  Bombay Bicycle Club and Electric Guest are on high rotation on Sirius Alt Nation.  Not bad.  One other song that they’re slowly ramping down is by Wolf Gang, The King and All of His Men:

This is one of the first songs that Teagan started singing along to.  Ashlin enjoys it too.  It is fun seeing them both bop their heads in time to a song.  This is one of those songs.

It was also played as we were heading to pick the girls up from day care.  This time, the dj preceded it with a mini interview with the songwriter, a British guy with a Mac last name.  He told a story about someone telling him that it was the perfect song for him and his girlfriend, their relationship.  He laughed, saying the song was about terrorism, the fundamental battle between good and evil.

Still, it sounds cheery enough.  I do not mind that rattling around my head all day.  It also will make me start to bounce my head in time to the song going along in my head.

Sirius radio played it this morning on the ride in.  I like this song.  A lot.  But it seems to stick in my head.  For a long time.  Today, it was all day.  Over and over, it wound round and around through my brain.  All day.  In the background while on a conference call, while going through e-mails, while walking to get more water.

I suppose there are worse ear worms to get stuck in your head.  And it’s a pretty happy tune…

So, around and around and around, all day, until driving home and Foster the People comes on the radio.  Yay!  Another happy ear worm!

So, today, the baby decided that she’d kick the living guts out of my while keeping beat to the song playing ~ “Good Times” by Chic.  Ouch! LOL!!

Twice!  A kick to each word.  These. Kick.  Are. Kick.  The. Kick.  Good. Kick. Times. Kick.

Heh.  Maybe she’ll be as much a music lover as her sister…  We’ll just have to see if she likes bagpipes as much…

Gotta love starting a post and then not getting back to it.  LOL.  There are some good things about the WP iPod app, and some bad..  So, I had started writing about how in the play room most of yesterday there were three songs that Teagan asked for “moar:”

1. Slade – Run Runaway (in today’s WILFing expedition, I hadn’t realized there were bagpipes in it!  LOL!  Teagan has an ear for them, it seems.
2. David Bowie – Changes
3. Leona Naess – Anything

She also got quite into Seven Nations and Hair of the Dog – stopping whatever play she was involved in to dance dance dance.  My little Irish Princess.

As Stu was being a love and putting the desk together yesterday, Teagan and I played in the play room.  At one time, I was crawling around on the floor (yes, doing a breech exercise, LOL!) picking up toys and putting them away.  I ended up going into the open knees chest position.  Teagan came up gave me a kiss, and then mimicked the position next to me.

She also copied Stu.  On one excursion from the play room to the front, we passed Stu lying under the desk, tightening something up.  She bolted into the den and gave him a kiss and then stole a screwdriver.  I herded her back into the front, so we could get her (and me!) something to eat.  The next time I left her, so I could have a bio-break, she went and lay down under the desk, with a screwdriver (backwards).  She’s really a sweet kid, and quick too.
