Whaaa?Driving to day care yesterday, the girls each had a stress-ball shaped like a fish.  Stu asked Ashlin not to eat the fish.  Teagan chimed in “you have to cook it first.  And when you  cook it,  it becomes fish sticks.”  Fish becomes fish sticks like magic!  She then followed up “when you cook a chicken it becomes chicken noodle soup.”  Stu replied, “oh, I didn’t know that.”   Teagan immediately jumped in with “SO!!! If you want fish soup, you cook a fish with a chicken.”

Awesome!

She’s the new Julia Child!

January 12, 2013 (Really!)

I’ve just been nominated for The Very Inspiring Blogger award by Oh Sew Tempting!  So nice that she thinks I’m inspiring :)

Very Inspiring Blog Award

Here are the rules:

1. Thank the person who nominated you.
2. Add The Very Inspiring Blogger Award to your post.
3. Share 7 things about yourself.
4. Pass the award on to 10 nominees.
5. Include this set of rules.
6. Inform your nominees by posting a comment on their blog.

So, here we go!  Avis, thank you so much.  With all your crafty skill, that you find me inspiring, leaves me at a loss.  Thank you!

Seven things about myself?  Hum…  let’s see.

  1. I lied to my kids about when Three Kings day was.  We told them it was today :o
  2. I was in a jumpy castle and went down a giant slide today!  So.  Much.  Fun!
  3. I really love watching Glee, Walking Dead, American Horror Story and Once Upon A Time.
  4. I may be a bit too excited for the new Star Trek movie and the second Hobbit movie.
  5. I can’t wait to watch Brave with my daughter.
  6. I have too much yarn in the house…  and bought more today!
  7. I don’t have as much time as I’d like to read, blogs or books

My one problem is that I don’t get to read too many blogs.  There are a few that I subscribe to, that I don’t want to miss an entry for.  But not 10.  A few of the ones I do read are big, multi-contributor blogs, ones that probably don’t “need” to be nominated for an award.  Anyway, here they are:

Chicken Nuggets and  Elmo (she has a second blog – Clean. Green. Eat. Repeat)

This Mumma’s Life (she also has a second blog – This Mumma’s Style)

Belissimom

Mrs. Odie

And now, to Russian join some yarn to continue on my afghan :)

Lord of the Rings Lego

OMG!  Why is Teagan too young to play with these?????

http://thelordoftherings.lego.com/en-us/Default.aspx

I wonder if I could get some now and hide them away until she’s old enough?  Or interested in more than just “her stories” by Disney?

The sets look fantastic.  Gollum (with his fish!) is too cool, the Uruk-hai are mean looking, and the Dark Riders are pretty scary.  And, ugh, you can get a Shelob set.

And they have a cave troll!

Great! They have a Cave Troll!

We’re six episodes into Lost Girl on Sci-Fi.  I’m enjoying it.  Sort of campy, not serious, little bit of sex.  It’s fun.

Tonight’s episode has cannibalism and hemorrhagic fever.  You know it’s going to be a fun time when there’s foot soup and bleeding eyeballs.  And a basilisk.  And bonus references to Narnia.

Previous episodes had Luck Eaters, a college sorority (the horror!), a love triangle, a Will ‘o the Wisp and an Oracle.  Kenzi, the human sidekick, is a walking animé character with a wry sense of humor.

The writing could be a bit tighter, and maybe a bit less cliché, but it’s better than a lot of shows on broadcast TV.  Grimm, for example, is a show I’m still watching, but I’m not quite sure why.  Maybe I’m too lazy to delete the program from the DVR…  Maybe I do enjoy the werewolf character – Monroe – just a little bit.  Maybe I’m hoping it gets better.

Anyway, I’m glad I found Lost Girl, and found room on the DVR for it.  I hope to enjoy the rest of the season as much as I have the first half.

Now for Stu and I to get caught up on The Walking Dead

Braiiiiiinnnnnssssss

OMG! This made me laugh too hard, at work where they frown at insane laughter out of nowhere.  I had forgotten about this until tonight when I was closing down window.  Tonight, it made me spit beer over my laptop.  A little.

I really love reading mamapop when I get the chance.  There’s always some nifty bit of information, they pre-sort the internet for me, and give me all the really important and interesting bits.

Like a Dr. Who and Star Trek crossover.  This could be interesting…  I may have to find a comic book shop.  I think there’s one between day care and the grocery store :)

Teagan's Hand Print Heart

Today, I finished up some of the artwork Teagan and I started a few weeks ago.  While Stu and Teagan went to the grocery store, Ashlin and I went to Michael’s and Big Lots to find frames.  To put Teagan’s hearts in.  I made a set of these handprint hearts for LaLa, NayNay, and Nana and Auntie Em.  Two are now framed, and one picture, (sans frame), will soon be on it’s way across the ocean.

It sort of looks like a heart.

Almost.

If you squint.

At two and a half, it’s not bad.

I need to finish up the other hand print hearts I started, and then get Ashlin’s feet done…  Then it’s on to Easter and Spring.  Tee hee hee!

Thumbprint tree

Oh, I also need to find time to do their hair-clip boards. I have the stuff now.  Teagan and I found the material yesterday, Ashlin and I found the frames today.

There’ll be time to do them.  Soon enough.

I’m waiting for the Budweiser hockey commercial to come on…  I hope I didn’t miss it while doing baths tonight.  Teagan was a bit needy – and very annoying! – this evening.

~~

Poop.  I just went for a link for the commercial, and it’s not going to air here.  That sucks.  It’s an awesome, really-makes-you-feel-good, optimistic, warm and fuzzy commercial.  I wish they’d play it here.  Even though it is hockey.

Fight for the Future at Whatever

Today, for 12 hours, I joined a protest.  Along with many others, I went black for SOPA and PIPA.  Wikipedia, for the first time ever, blocked their US site, and had information about this act.  This act, this censorship, is wrong.  It’s too much like Big Brother, and instead of Thought Police, they will be more like an “Ownership” Police, potentially shutting down small sites, harassing larger ones, having search engines remove links to perceived pirate sites.

Fight the Future

Lots of places are using a Tag line of “Fight for the future” for their PIPA information, their link to an on-line petition. That just makes me think of X-Files, and raises the paranoia quotient 100%.  I want to believe that the internet is a free place for all.

It seems, from a very early preliminary look, all the blacked out sites may have some sort of success.

Darth is happy too.

2011 in review

I received my annual report card a few weeks ago, and was trying to figure out how to save the web report as an image.  Finally got the screen shots done and pasted together…  If you’re interested, it’s below the break.  I am happy to say that views grew at 5 times 2010 (I don’t want to say 500%), and posts by just over 3 times.  Crazy! Blurry masterpieces or Christmas ornaments

Today was a fun day!  We went to a friend of  Teagan’s house and made ornaments.  First Teagan made a handprint ornament for her friend, who gave us one of hers.  Then we got to paint some pre-made ornaments.  Teagan LOVES painting, and had so much fun.

After making her masterpieces, she got to play with her friends.  She had a great time!  She told her friend G (really, the man she’s going to marry, she told me so), that she poops in the potty now, and she showed off her big-girl knickers with the flowers on.  It was such a good time that she didn’t want to leave, for a much needed nap.  We weren’t able to get one in the morning, and we were up late last night at a Christmas party.

Yeah, we’re bad parents.  We had our toddler and eight month old baby out after 9pm.  But still, it was a fun party, and so nice to see everyone again.

She napped for over 2.5 hours, once we got her down.

In other news, I was nominated for an award.  A Versatile Blogger Award.  I feel so special!  One of my readers, Chicken Nuggets & Elmo nominated me.  Thank you for the nomination!

There are a few rules, the first of which is to share seven things about myself.  An interesting idea.  I’ve shared quite a bit about myself here in my blog, I’m not sure if there’s all that much “new” to reveal.  Maybe I can cheat a little.

            1. I started this blog over six years ago, having no idea it would eventually become basically a “mommy blog.” It was mostly just a place for my friends and I to play around with internet memes, with the occasional book review on Yahoo!360.
            2. I am less than five pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight with Ashlin.  My pants still don’t fit.
            3. Knights of Mayhem, while making me wince and cringe, is a guilty reality tv pleasure.
            4. I wish time would slow down, so I could get to stay home with the kiddos and work to pay for it all.  Maybe I just want to clone myself?
            5. I write so many blog entries in my head, and never seem to get to them.  So many of the pictures on my phone are for potential blog entries that never get written.  I fall asleep too early some nights :(
            6. I still wish I hadn’t needed a c-section, and regret not having the birth experience (the second time) I wanted.
            7. I am reading Price and Prejudice and Zombies now, and can’t remember enough of P&P to realize the non-zombie bits that are exactly from the original.  It makes me wonder how much of other books I have forgotten.

I’m also supposed to nominate other blogs I read for the award.  I do read a few other blogs reguarly – hello Chicken Nuggets! – I don’t read all that many outside of Amalah, the Bad Moms Club and Alphamom, I just don’t have the time.  I’ll just have to think about any other possibilities.

OMG! I enjoyed a “reality” tv show. Stu and I just watched an episode of Knights of Mayhem, and enjoyed it. No, we didn’t enjoy the reality bit, the drama behind the jousters. The hits were hard, and the actual competition was cringe inducing. I did like the little bit they did on making the armor. There aren’t that many people in the states who could make a real suit of armor.

The personality of one of the main competitors is as black as his suit of armor. A black heart. Two sizes too small. Just made me want to root for the other guy more.

Stu and I have gone to a few Ren Faires, and love watching the jousts, the sword fights. Even though those are just for show, with balsa wood lances, and barely stronger than aluminum swords. This show was the fun, with a bit more full on contact. They were not faking any of the hits, any of the pain.

So, we watched our first real reality tv show. About knights jousting. And will watch it again. The “drama” that they tried to build is short enough, and the joust interesting enough to make up for it.
