Whatever!

What to muse about today?

Poor baby, swaddled up at the hospital. Sleeping for a little bit before she was poked and prodded. Again.

We were sent by the on-call doctor because she got very very dehydrated. And puked a lot.  And was listless.

She was crying and didn’t have enough moisture to make tears. Heartbreaking.

We tried to make her drink. But she still got dehydrated.

We were admitted, they debated on if she had fifths disease too, or if that was the cause. I was yelling inside, that it wasn’t fifths.

Ashlin ended up perking up and tried to make friends with kids in the waiting room and in the hallway.

As we were released, to continue what we’ve been doing, the discharge nurse told me that Ashlin was the most adorable kid that was in the ER tonight. I’m sure she says that to everyone.

We’re home. She’s sleeping. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Sigh.

They think that maybe she caught a touch of what stu and I had earlier this week, and that helped dehydrate her. Stu stayed home with Teagan while I went with Ashlin. Teagan was a bit out of sorts, as we left at the end of her dinner.

We’re going to need to play the wait and see game, I think. Although she didn’t have a wet diaper first thing this morning, she was happy, and playing and crawling around. When I put her down for a nap, she was wet, so that was good.

We are going to call the doctor in a bit, probably after she wakes up, to see where we go from here.

Thank you! She was very much herself this morning, though still with the lingering dehydration issues. We’re going to need to play the day by ear…

Thanks Chrissy! She was doing pretty well this morning, very happy and giggly… crawling around the playroom and pulling up. She did go about 20 hours between wet diapers… So, we will need to keep an eye on her today.

I am so sorry you ended up in the ER, but I am glad she isn’t so dehydrated. What a week you have all had! Do you need to go back to the dr. tomorrow to have her checked? Did she sleep through the night

    • lisasff says:

Oh, it’s definitely been a week I could do without! We’ll be calling the doctor in a little bit. She woke up with a bone dry diaper, but I just changed a sort-of-wet diaper, the first in just about 20 hours.

We finally got home and her down around 11:30. She was up around 3:30 crying hysterically. I could not get her to stop. Nothing was working, nursing, swaying, rocking, bouncing. She woke her sister up, so Stu went into Teagan. He then came in to check on me and Ashlin. Held her a bit, which didn’t help either. I ended up getting the last of the pedialyte and giving her that, and then swaddling her and rocking… She finally quieted and went down 30 minutes later.

Stu was a doll, and let me sleep. He got up with Teagan and then Ashlin. I don’t think I’ve slept until 9 in years.

How horrible. If she had a bone dry diaper after IV fluids yesterday, that is not a good sign. Was she producing tears overnight? Keep us posted..we are all worried about the 4 of you!

        • lisasff says:

Oh! We didn’t get IV fluids yesterday! Thank goodness, I guess. They had talked about it, but as Ashlin did nurse and got some pedialyte in her via syringe and didn’t really throw up again, sorehydrated a bit, they decided she was ok. By the time they sent us home, she did have tears, and saliva. Her 3am crying jag did have tears too. We will be calling in with the on-call doctor after she wakes up from her nap, just to see what’s up.

Poor little girl! And poor you.

Thanks!! It’s not been a fun few days. Though, Ashlin did start cruising in style yesterday before she turned for the worse. So, a double milestone day for her.
